Tim McQuay Rides Dun Gotta Gun to USEF Qualifier Championship

National Reining Horse Association All Time Leading Reiner, Tim McQuay, rode Dun Gotta Gun to the Championship of the United States Equestrian Federation Reining qualifying event on March 19 at the Gordyville Breeders Classic in Gordyville, Illinois.

Scoring an astounding 228.5, McQuay and “Gun” were correct and dynamic throughout the run. “He felt awesome,” noted McQuay, shortly after the win. “I let him down by being too quick in the first rollback. He was stopping so good and so low that I got in a hurry.”

With that one bobble, the run became flawless. “He’s a great horse with a great mind and big heart,” noted McQuay. “It’s a lot of fun to be able to ride him.”

Dun Gotta Gun, owned by Jerry Kimmel of Granbury, Texas, has his own following. One of the few reining horses ever so honored, the flashy stallion, like his sire, Hollywood Dun It, has had his likeness recreated as a Breyer Collectible. “Everywhere we go with him, there are people there with their Breyer horses wanting them autographed,” said McQuay.

“The run at Gordyville was beautiful and breathtaking,” said Kimmel. “Tim did such a great job showing him. It was so exciting for me to watch these two great champions show their talents. We’re already looking forward to the USEF Championships.”
